Czech Egg
Wilson's giant Czech Egg (deemed the world's largest) celebrates and honors the community's Czech heritage. Standing 20 feet tall, the egg arrived in Wilson in 2012, was painted in April 2015, and was put upright under a gazebo in July 2016. The egg is the focal point for the annual Wilson After Harvest Czech Festival, one of the largest festivals in the region. The festival brings in thousands from all across Kansas and neighboring states. The mission of the festival is to promote and honor the Czech heritage, encourage community and family by providing programs and activities that are appealing and appropriate for all ages and to attract tourist to our small rural community therefore financially benefiting not only local businesses but surrounding community businesses as well. |
Historic Midland Railroad Hotel
A magnificent, limestone building rising three stories high and comprising 28 elegant rooms—and lit by the day’s latest method, acetylene gas—it was popular stop along the Union Pacific Railroad between Kansas City and Denver. Businessmen stopped there so often to show their wares, in fact, that the hotel’s basement became known as the Sample Room, and still is today. Visit the Hotel website to learn more. |
