Review of options and considerations for developing site pages
and or a website the Wilson Economic Development Corp.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greg German, Kansas City, Kansas (formerly from Glen Elder, Kansas) was contacted by David Criswell in regard to constructing web pages or a stand-alone site to provide information for the Wilson Economic Development Corp. (WEDC) (Learn more about Greg at: www.limestone9consulting.com – links to other sites he has built are also available here.)
Part of the initial consultation focused on whether or not a “section” might be added to the Wilson Pride, Inc., a website created and managed by Mr. German for the past several years. (Yes, the information can be added to the current Pride website.) Or, if a stand-alone site for WEDC might be more appropriate for exposure and marketing purposes.
In review of the potential related community aspects, there are currently 4 websites / entities promoting Wilson. These include:
Per this Greg inquired about /suggested a unified website promoting the community and all supporting local entities, which could soon include a fifth, the Wilson Economic Development Corp.
Reasoning --
All the sites appear to providing same and or near similar information that is pertinent to Wilson citizens and businesses. Three of these *sites appear to be in some state of development and or upkeep flux:
Mr. German suggest that these sites, all leaning toward the same message and audience market, potentially suggests a lack of “unity” between groups and within the community.
This potentially effects both the marketing means and image of the community as a whole…. Which is why Mr. German is suggesting that a unified site be considered. The benefits would include:
~ A City website, in today’s world, is most often the first extended hand, the first welcome, the first image, the first source of information offered by the community and its representative entities. The website works at promoting and representing its city 24 hours a day, year round…

- City Government
- Chamber of Commerce organization
- Pride, Inc., organization
- Czech Festival organizers + potentially forthcoming,
- Wilson Economic Development Corp.
- *www.wilsonkansas.com -- City Government site: outdated development tool, design and content layout scheme – the layout is ragged and content includes outdated (2013) material at a couple of points
- *www.wilsonks.com -- Pride, Inc. site: outdated development tool and outdated content by 3 years (last updated 2013)
- *www.wilsonkschamber.com -- Chamber of Commerce site: no content with notice (over an extended period of time) that site the is being updated
- http://wilsonczechfest.com – dedicated Czech Festival site: makes sense that this event would have a stand-alone site, BUT there is no link to any of the other Wilson “city / community” related sites, which seems odd.
Mr. German suggest that these sites, all leaning toward the same message and audience market, potentially suggests a lack of “unity” between groups and within the community.
This potentially effects both the marketing means and image of the community as a whole…. Which is why Mr. German is suggesting that a unified site be considered. The benefits would include:
- One website platform and voice representing the 5 pertinent organizations that support the community through their actions and projects.
- Shared cost in maintaining 1 website, thus reducing related expenses for all.
- A contemporary designed and functioning website.
